Receiving a special Invitation to the AKC agility Invitationals in Long Beach California is a special and exciting experience. Discovering that your very special dog was listed as one of the top 5 dogs in agility is almost indescribable. Of course you want to go to California ; what an honor and you want to experience it.
Last year, to my utter shock and amazement, my highly spirited little girl received an invitation and after much deliberation, decided to go. What we experienced was truly a joy.
Dogs from all over the country, including Alaska and Puerto Rico attended. There were only 5 or less of each and every breed. A nice change to what we see around here. Big dogs, medium dogs, little dogs, furry dogs and bald dogs all enjoyed running agility at the Invitationals.
Imagine all 3 venues of AKC top 5 dogs of each breed in one building. Confirmation and agility were downstairs while obedience and breed group representatives were upstairs.
We ran both standard and Jumpers with Weaves each day for 2 days and although not in the finals, got to watch the finals first hand.
While this site is really far from where most of the GSP’s invited live for both last year and this year, the site is really very good. Nice hotels each near the convention center and the town is very dog friendly. There is a very nice dog beach about 5 minutes away where Shania was able to exercise and she had a blast for the entire time.
We were treated very well and this was an experience to behold. Truly a wonderful experience.
Good Luck to all Participants in this years Agility & Obedience Invitational.

Shania's mom on 2007 Experience
Here's a great story by Sandy on their family's experience at 2007 AKC agility invitational. What I found out today is that one of the dogs declined and Shania was actually invited go again this year as the #6 GSP but Sandy declined instead pursuing their UD in obedience which they recently earned. Congratulations on another successful year in agility AND obedience!!
