Round 3 and 4

Sorry for late report....

Livie, Marvin and Rosie Q'd on Round 3. Bruni, Marvin and Livie Q'd on round 4. Congratulations to our GSP gang on a job well done. Hope to post photos from Stacy when she gets home and perhaps some video if possible.

The courses are up on AKC site and look pretty difficult. I watch some video of JWW runs and some top handlers were really struggling.

We are all proud of every single one of you for representing our wonderful breed! Hope everyone has a safe trip home.

Shania's mom on 2007 Experience

Here's a great story by Sandy on their family's experience at 2007 AKC agility invitational. What I found out today is that one of the dogs declined and Shania was actually invited go again this year as the #6 GSP but Sandy declined instead pursuing their UD in obedience which they recently earned. Congratulations on another successful year in agility AND obedience!!

Receiving a special Invitation to the AKC agility Invitationals in Long Beach California is a special and exciting experience. Discovering that your very special dog was listed as one of the top 5 dogs in agility is almost indescribable. Of course you want to go to California ; what an honor and you want to experience it.

Last year, to my utter shock and amazement, my highly spirited little girl received an invitation and after much deliberation, decided to go. What we experienced was truly a joy.

Dogs from all over the country, including Alaska and Puerto Rico attended. There were only 5 or less of each and every breed. A nice change to what we see around here. Big dogs, medium dogs, little dogs, furry dogs and bald dogs all enjoyed running agility at the Invitationals.

Imagine all 3 venues of AKC top 5 dogs of each breed in one building. Confirmation and agility were downstairs while obedience and breed group representatives were upstairs.

We ran both standard and Jumpers with Weaves each day for 2 days and although not in the finals, got to watch the finals first hand.

While this site is really far from where most of the GSP’s invited live for both last year and this year, the site is really very good. Nice hotels each near the convention center and the town is very dog friendly. There is a very nice dog beach about 5 minutes away where Shania was able to exercise and she had a blast for the entire time.

We were treated very well and this was an experience to behold. Truly a wonderful experience.

Good Luck to all Participants in this years Agility & Obedience Invitational.

Friends

I have been blessed to have met some wonderful friends through my dog adventures. Two of these are shown above. Stacy and her husband Jeff are wonderful representatives for not only our breed but agility too. Dave and his wife Karen are always kind and considerate of others. Dave has attended every National that I have been to since we have been involved with GSPs. Even when he didn't have a dog entered, he flew to PA and helped out with agility. Dave has been instrumental in the versatility program for GSPCA and is a very well respected AKC agility judge and was chosen for the agility advisory committee. Dave is shown above with Stacy and Livie's 20th QQ ribbons!! How great is that for a GSP breeder/owner/handler to be present for this moment. It was a good day.....

Good luck to Stacy and Livie (SharpMtn's OU Live To Play MX MXJ NAP NJP XF) along with our local friends from Nashville area. Also, to Karen and Tracy who will be competing in BBE competition in breed.

If you want to wish these folks good luck at invitationals, click on "comments" and leave your thoughts. I am sure they would appreciate it!!!

I will be working the next couple of days so hope to post some new information by the end of the week.

It wouldn't be right without wishing my lab friends good luck at Invitational also, especially Paul Young and his phenomenal black lab "Bit". Paul is an inspiration to everyone who competes in agility. Bit was #1 lab this year and their hard work is obvious in their remarkable teamwork.

All of us agility folks will be living our dreams through you all. WEAVE ON!!!!!

Note From Bruni's Breeder

"Dear Judy and Bruni: this is your proud grandma Donna wishing you both lots of good luck at the Invit. I am so proud of you both as you well know. I will be crossing my fingers and toes. But no matter what I still love you both!!!! Judy you are such a blessing for a breeder, you have no idea how hard it is for us to hand over our bundle of joy to a stranger, but when things like this happens it makes it all worthwhile. You just never know which people will get the bug and go on to do fantastic things. Your time/devotion and skills are very much appreciated. It takes a lot of hard work to accomplish all that you have done with Bruni...I am truly grateful for your friendship over the years as well. Go get em!!!!! Donna"

Photos from 2007

Here are some photos sent to me from my good friend Sandy. Shania competed at AKC agility Inv in 2007 along w/ Rosie and Hannah.

***One of my most memorable GSP moments of 2008**** When Sandy, her husband and another Sandy (you know who you are) took over the sports bar at the GSP NSS in Oconomowoc to watch The American Idol show on the big screen. Also, our daily trips to Culver's restaurant for their butter burgers and ice cream.

Comments from Eleanor Campbell

photo of Price at 1 week 6 days old with "littermate"

Below are Eleanor's comments on her wonderful GSP "Price" who is in the top 5 obedience GSPs for 2008. Eleanor declined the invitation due to East Coast/West Coast distances but I hope that she knows that we are all very proud of her accomplishments....

In addition to competing in obedience, Price is a breed champion, a working therapy dog, and has appeared in both print and TV advertisements and has done agility, too. But Price’s great passion in life, is water retrieving. He would have been a fabulous duck dog as he marks well, will leap into the coldest water (he has swum in Massachusetts in the snow on Christmas Eve, jumps off docks in Maine in the summer) and will search endlessly for whatever he is asked to retrieve.

Price was the 2007 GSPCA Obedience Dog of the Year and earned his UDX in October. He is now semi-retired from obedience competition. I am very proud that both Sydney and Price have earned invitations to the AKC Invitational over the last few years. They have never attended, because I made the decision that flying them cross country for just one day of competition was simply not something we were going to do. But both have competed in the All Star Tournament held bi-annually in York, PA. In 2001, Price earned 5th place in the Novice Division at that tournament.

And finally, Price’s son was invited to the AKC breed invitational both in 2007 and 2008! The tradition continues…
